Racer Categories

The 2023 Volkswagen St. John’s Enduro Series will have the following racer categories:

  • U19 Sport

  • U19 Expert

  • Women

  • Men’s Sport

  • Men’s Expert

  • E-Bike**

Participants in all categories will ride a minimum of 5 stages per race, while those in the expert categories will have one bonus stage.

Anyone from age 13 to 18 is eligible for the U19 categories. Eligibility is determined based on your age as of December 31, 2023. Riders born between 2005 and 2010 are eligible for the U19 categories.

The women’s category will include U19 girls and 19+ adults. This category will ride the same course as the sport groups, and have the option to ride an extra stage with the expert groups. If any women opt to do the full expert course, you will be given a time on the bonus stage but it will not count towards your overall results.

** New to 2023, we will be including an E-Bike category. The E-Bike category will include any U19 and 19+ male and females! This category will ride the same course as the sport groups, and have the option to ride an extra stage with the expert groups. If any E-Bike riders opt to do the full expert course, you will be given a time on the bonus stage (for bragging rights) but it will not count towards your overall results.

Promotion

Riders are being promoted from sport to expert based on previous performance. Anyone who meets either of the following criteria will be promoted:

  • Won a single race in 2022

  • Finished on the podium twice in 2022

The following people have been promoted from sport to expert: Andrew Dunn, Kyle Roberts, Aaron Watkins, Peter Quinlan, Austin Whelan and Nathan Hopkins. These riders are allowed to remain in the sport category if they want, but will no longer be eligible for prizes or podium finishes.

Additionally, any U19 expert riders who meet either of the criteria above are now permitted to enter the Men’s Expert category. This is optional, and all U19 expert riders are free to remain in the U19 category. The following U19 expert riders are permitted to join the adult group: Jesse Reddick, and Nathan O'Brien.
